The “Wachahof” farm was bought by Georg Schwarz in 1874 and has been owned by the Schwarz family ever since. In 1950, a lightning strike destroyed large parts of the farmyard. Florian and Christina Schwarz took over the business in 2022 and are the 5th generation to take over the business. Today the business is managed by us – Florian and Christina, the old farmer Johann, the old farmer’s wife Maria and Gerald Schwarz.
Entry on the Wachahof from a history book from the region:
Located on the upper reaches of the Kreuzleitenbach, the “Wahabauer” (written around 1750) appears as early as 1351 as Waechenhof, further mentions in 1594 as Wahenhof and in the Urbar of the parish of Edlitz in 1685 as Wähoff, in dialect one speaks of the “Wachabauer”. Anyone who believes in a “guardian farm” is wrong, that was not what gave it its name. The Middle High German word “waehe” means pleasant, beautiful. Taking care of a person’s “wealth and woe” originally means preparing comfort for him.
With this in mind, we are particularly pleased to be able to meet our historical standards and provide you with amenities during your stay at the Wachahof!
